Falling is a major concern for older adults. Here are some facts on falling.

-Falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries to persons over 65 years old
-57% of falls occur from slipping, tripping or stumbling
-26.7% of falls occur due to lose of balance, dizziness, fainting, or seizures
-16.3% of falls occur due to other reasons (collision, pushing, jumping)
-49.9% of falls occur inside a person’s home
-23.7% of falls occur outside the home but in close proximity to one’s home
-6.3% of falls occur away from the home on streets, highways, or parking lots

The key to addressing falls consists of:
-Managing medications
-Improving home safety (removing rugs, cords, etc.)
-Increasing foot health
-Improving posture
-Improving balance
