Over 10 years ago, I was diagnosed with falling arches. At that time I was fitted for orthotics. For almost 2 years I wore them until I met a yoga instructor who taught me how to strengthen my feet. For about 2 months, I practiced the exercises in this video series to help correct my falling arches. In addition by strengthening my feet my hip and lower back pain and problems start to subside. As I continued to exercise my feet the orthotics started to cause me pain and discomfort. Eventually, I tossed them in the garbage. I have not wore orthotics for over 2 years. I can now go bare foot 24 hours a day. My feet rarely hurt me anymore.
The following exercises are perfect for someone who has been told they have no arches or falling arches. An arch is simply a set of muscles, so when exercised correctly they will begin to take on their natural shape once again. I can’t say all people don’t need orthotics, but I can say that many people who walk around with orthotics or inserts in their shoes could save a lot of money if they simply learned to strengthen the muscles of their arches.
